Taking Steps
So Step One is getting your head right. It’s a matter of confidence, and staying focussed. I cannot emphasise this enough: STAY FOCUSSED! One of my character traits (alright, ‘major flaws’) is procrastination. By nature I’m a Problem Solver: I’ll figure out how something should be done, and then seek the next problem to solve - I’m not a bean-counter, I’m a Big Picture person. Someone else can deal with the finicky detail.
Only… this time, I cannot walk away and let someone else do it. I HAVE to do it myself. So I cannot let myself get distracted by the next appealing idea, or the next challenging problem to be sorted. Believe you me, I’ve come across a lot of appealing ideas! The trouble is, all this appeal leads to confusion. Which idea to follow up? How to start? Where to start? And (not least) how much will it cost? In the end, nothing happens because I’ve stalled, up to my eyes in great ideas, but with no clear idea of where to go next.
So, I finally sat down to solve my own problem. This is the result.
If any of this feels familiar to you, whether you’re a newbie or not, you have my sympathy and understanding - but YOU are the only person who can solve your own problem. My intention is: start small (with HUMONGOUS ambitions!) and build up steadily. Just get on with it, if only to shut my Mrs up when she moans about the time I waste on the computer, pratting about. Which brings us neatly to the major concept when getting your head around the whole idea: SELF BELIEF.
It’s not a new idea, by any means. But those who succeed BELIEVE IN THEMSELVES AND THEIR DREAM! Hold onto that idea and run with it! Understand that most of the people you know and love. and whose opinions you trust, will tell you - repeatedly - that it will never work; the only way to make a living is to find a steady job and keep going until you retire. Retire? On today’s pensions? Hell, who can afford to retire? Where would the Richard Bransons and Alan Sugars of this world be if they’d listened to ‘advice’ like that? These are guys who advise governments!
But battling disbelief is extemely difficult on your own, much like giving up smoking. It drains your energy as well as your feeling of self-worth. Low self-esteem and depression don’t make good foundations for anything, let alone making a living. I know: been there, bought the straight-jacket. The great news is, there’s a lot of help out there. You don’t have to go cold turkey alone in the padded cell of your mind. With that in mind, let me introduce a couple of my ‘mentors’.
PAUL McKENNA made his name on British TV as a hypnotist. He’s gone on to far greater things, not least because he opted to try to help others, using his skills and talent. I will be writing an in-depth report eventually, but meanwhile I have written a briefer review which you can download and read from the Reviews page. For now accept that one of his publications has helped me enormously - and continues to do so. Change Your Life in 7 Days is an in-depth guide and blueprint - including CD - of self-improvement aimed at getting your head around the mental barriers preventing you from making the most of your own abilities - including overcoming both your own negative thought-processes and those of the people around you. Believe me, it works! Or I would not be doing this. And I am about to embark on a second publication of his - with some trepidation! - and quit smoking using his Quit Smoking Today. I will review this in the near future. Promise!
